Frequently asked questions about Scan To BIM

We help you resolve your most common doubts.

How accurate is a Scan To BIM model?

Our models achieve millimeter-level accuracy, depending on the type of asset and the technology used, including laser scanning, SLAM, and drone surveying.

Which modeling software do you use and what is it compatible with?

We work with Revit and AutoCAD, ensuring compatibility with the leading BIM workflows used across the industry.

Can Scan To BIM be used in facilities that remain in operation?

Yes. We design the surveying process so that it does not interfere with normal operations, ensuring safety and minimal disruption in industrial plants, airports, and critical infrastructure.

How long does a typical Scan To BIM project take?

It depends on the complexity and size of the asset. For medium-sized facilities, data capture and processing can often be completed within a few weeks, while larger projects may require multiple phases. We always provide a clear project schedule from the outset.

Can the BIM model be updated over time?

Absolutely. Our models are designed to support future updates, allowing extensions, refurbishments, and changes to existing facilities to be incorporated without the need to repeat the entire surveying process.

Does Scan4Model guarantee data confidentiality?

Yes. All captured data is handled under strict security and confidentiality protocols. Information is only shared with authorized teams, ensuring the protection of sensitive client and project data.

What sets us apart in Scan To BIM

It’s not just about capturing data. It’s about turning it into reliable, actionable information for your project. Our approach combines expertise in complex environments, technical accuracy, and a methodology focused on delivering real-world results throughout the project lifecycle.

Our BIM models have helped reduce on-site errors by up to 30% and accelerate planning by 25% across industrial, infrastructure, energy, and aerospace projects.

Scan To BIM service phases

Drawing on our extensive range of services, we have developed a standardized methodology that ensures consistency, quality, and efficiency throughout every Scan To BIM project.

Initial contact with the client, during which project objectives, timelines, budget, scope, and the contractor’s actual requirements are defined. At this stage, a scanning strategy is developed, identifying the personnel involved in data acquisition and the most appropriate scanning technologies to be used.

Phase outcome Definition of project objectives, timelines, and scope.

Our technicians visit the construction site or environment where the building or asset is located to carry out the scanning process according to the defined project requirements.

Once the scanning is completed, the collected data is processed in our offices. This stage represents the first phase of the Scan To BIM methodology: the scanning and registration of a complete point cloud that will serve as the foundation for the modeling process.

Phase outcome Digitalization of the project asset.

Using the point cloud generated from the scanning process as a reference, we proceed with the modeling phase. During this stage, BIM modeling and 3D alignment tools are applied to each element, ensuring millimeter-level synchronization between all model components and the point cloud.

Phase outcome BIM model coordinated with the point cloud.

We identify discrepancies and misalignments between the BIM model and the point cloud. Given the large amount of information contained in both datasets, this process is essential to prevent future issues during construction. The 3D model is therefore reviewed and analyzed to detect potential clashes and coordination conflicts. Phase outcome Identification of clashes and validation of model accuracy.

Phase outcome Model refinement and error detection.

The model data and point cloud (when required) are exported in the formats requested by the client and organized according to the desired folder structure. Thanks to our workflow methodology, interoperability between files and different project disciplines is fully ensured.

Phase outcome Final delivery and ongoing support.
