REALITY CAPTURE TECHNIQUES

Reality capture, through technologies such as laser scanning, photogrammetry, and 360° imaging, offers numerous benefits to construction and engineering companies, ranging from accurate site documentation to efficient asset maintenance and management. These technologies provide a detailed and accurate representation of the physical environment, which enables more efficient project planning, design, and execution, while reducing costs and minimizing risks.

What is Reality Capture?

Reality Capture encompasses a set of technologies designed to digitize the physical environment and transform it into accurate three-dimensional information. Through the use of LiDAR sensors, terrestrial laser scanners, mobile laser scanners (SLAM), photogrammetry, drones, and 360° imaging, it is possible to generate point clouds, 3D models, and digital twins that represent the actual condition of an asset.

This data serves as the foundation for the design, engineering, construction, and lifecycle management processes of buildings and infrastructure. Unlike traditional methods, reality capture makes it possible to work with objective, measurable, and up-to-date information. Integrated into BIM, CAD, and GIS workflows, 3D digitization improves coordination, data visualization, and decision-making in complex projects. Working with accurate, real-world data helps reduce
errors, timelines, and costs, from design through to operations.

Each project and every client is unique. That is why we tailor our services to meet their specific needs with the highest level of precision. Nevertheless, our service methodology is generally structured around the following phases:

We carry out data acquisition using the reality capture technology best suited to each project’s requirements.

We process, register, clean, and optimize the captured point clouds and images. We generate deliverables in the most suitable format according to the software in which they will be used. Depending on the type of project, this process may be carried out in real time directly on-site or through post-processing in the office.

We generate 3D, BIM, CAD, or GIS models tailored to the client’s workflow.

We support the client in the use of the data and validate the results. We also provide training, consulting services, and guidance to help our clients successfully carry out their own digitization projects.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT REALITY CAPTURE

What is the accuracy of 3D scanning?

The accuracy depends on the technology used.

Terrestrial laser scanners (TLS) and mobile SLAM scanning systems can achieve millimeter-level accuracy, making them suitable for engineering and construction projects.
Handheld or high-resolution scanners designed for part digitization and reverse engineering provide accuracies in the range of tenths or even hundredths of a millimeter.

Airborne LiDAR systems mounted on drones or UAVs, as well as mobile mapping solutions used for scanning large areas, typically deliver accuracies within a few centimeters, depending on the characteristics of the project. The use of control points and topographic survey references helps manage deviations and ensure the accuracy levels required for each project.

Are the data compatible with BIM and CAD environments?

Oui, nous livrons des nuages de points et des modèles compatibles avec les logiciels Revit, Archicad, AutoCAD, Allplan, Tekla, E3D ainsi qu’avec d’autres logiciels de conception assistée par ordinateur (CAO).

Does activity need to be interrupted during the capture process?

In most cases, no. Reality capture technologies allow work to be carried out without disrupting normal operations.

Can multiple technologies be combined?

Yes, we combine 3D scanning, photogrammetry, drones (UAVs), and 360° imaging to achieve the best possible results.
